Pool Party

Our building's pool has several kiddie pools for the use by those who are persona non grata in the real pool (i.e., the non-potty trained). Andrew took advantage of this amenity Sunday afternoon and - surprise, surprise - he didn't scream in protest. Seemed pretty content to sit in a couple of inches of water, splashing occasionally. Dad had a good time too.

To heck with the car seat, lady. I'm riding shotgun.

6 month stats

Andrew paid a visit to the pediatrician today and had the time of his young life kicking, grabbing, and marching on the paper covering the exam table. I believe I successfully prevented him from eating it, but that took a lot of effort. As I pried him away and surveyed the utter destruction he had wrought in just a few short minutes -- it was truly an impressive heap of crinkled, shredded, drooled on paper -- I felt like one of those parents who let their child run wild in someone else's house. For shame. Luckily they have rolls of the stuff.

Anyway, we learned that Andrew is taller than 88% of his peers at 28 inches or "two foot four," as I think I'll call it. He's catching up to the curve in terms of weight at 17 lbs 3 oz (36th percentile). And this can only keep up, now that we have to go-ahead to add a 3rd meal to his day, including soft solids like yogurt, cottage cheese and pureed meats. Pureed meats....yummy.

Baby Mozart

He does look pretty psyched, but I think it's at the thought of getting that shiny iPhone in his mouth, not at the lovely music he's creating.

Andrew CLEARLY says Dada.

Here we see Andrew trying out some new consonant sounds that he's been working on. If you ask me, he's pretty obviously saying Dada. Carrie seems to think differently for some reason.....

Sitting around, chewing a link

Here we see Andrew just hanging out on a Sunday morning, getting better at sitting up and enjoying playing with his various toys. It's hard to tell but for most of the second half of this video he's making the raspberry noise and spitting on his bib.
Not pictured is him keeling over and bonking his head a minute later. He was not pleased with me.

Six months old!

Ok ok, 6 months and 9 days old. I'm falling behind a little in my photo documentation. I never managed to break out the camera last weekend while Andrew was awake.

At 6 months old, Andrew has just sprouted his first baby tooth, on the bottom left. He continues to make good strides in sleeping and feeding. He sleeps through the night about half the time now, and has polished off a whole jar of baby food once this week, although usually just eating half of one. He has tried rice cereal, oat cereal (he has rejected that one), squash, sweet potatoes, carrots, peas, bananas, and pears. He still loves jumping and kicking, and the exersaucer is good for 30 minutes of entertainment at a stretch. He is getting pretty good at sitting up, although he will still keel over occasionally. He has demonstrated the ability to roll from back to front once while awake. Still not a big fan of tummy time so we haven't seen him roll onto his back for a few months now. He continues to make a variety of noises, a few consonant sounds here and there. He has also started clucking his tongue. His hair is slowly filling in--quite light and very fuzzy for now. He also loves to smile, and giggles like a mad man when tickled or even at the sight of fingers making tickling motion from across the room!

First tooth!

Here we see Andrew's first baby tooth starting to show--the bottom left one. You may have to take my word for it, but if you look closely at this disturbingly close-up photo, you can see the top of the tooth just poking out (may only be visible if you click on the photo to zoom in). It's challenging to do macro photography on a wriggling 6-month-old who won't open his mouth!

Lounge Wear

Here is Andrew in his fabulous silk robe from Thailand. He lounges around post-bath in style. No doubt.
Did I mention there's a dragon embroidered on the back?
