Sit-ups

Well, not really. But Andrew is getting pretty good at sitting up on his own. He can't get there on his own yet, but if I sit him up he is starting to enjoy it. Just over the past few days he has been able to go longer and longer without support, and is learning how to keep himself from keeling over.

Some of the time, anyway....

Here I am, come visit me

Andrew had multiple callers this weekend. Uncle Ricky and Aunt Kate came in to spend Saturday with him, and Carrie and I found a babysitter so we made it out of the house to a nice dinner with them.

A lovely time; despite the US losing to Ghana, Ricky kept a stiff upper lip.

Andrew enjoyed grabbing everyone's hair, as usual. Future female visitors should be warned to bring a hair clip.

Craig and Erica also made a quick stop to meet Andrew on Sunday morning, but managed to escape without photo documentation.

Happy Father's Day!

Solid progress

Andrew's attitude toward baby cereal did not improve over time, so we've moved on to squash. Two feedings in, it's been much better received! We're talking two-spoon-eating, bib-licking delicious!

Where Andrew REALLY came from

He was quite reasonably priced, but the shipping and handling was astronomical.

I'll take my own tummy time, thank you

Andrew made it through the second night in a row without a peep, over 11 hours straight. I get suspicious about what he's up to in there, being quiet all night, so I woke up several times anyway to check on him. Half-way through the night he had rotated around 180 degrees. By morning, he had rotated all the way back to his initial position, except that he had also flipped onto his tummy! It seems that he has given up on us putting him on his tummy (lest he get fussy after a few minutes), and has decided to do it himself. This from the child who seems to have forgotten how to roll onto his back.

Near......Far!

Here we see Andrew enjoying a swing on Carrie's lap. It reminds me of Grover from Sesame Street. Near........FAR! I know it looks like I'm banging the camera into Andrew's head here, but I assure you I did not.

From 7pm to 7am, baby!

I believe they call that sleeping through the night. Yay Andrew! We took a picture of him napping this morning to mark the occasion.

Doesn't he look well rested?

Story time

Greg and I have enjoyed reading to Andrew since he was just a couple of weeks old. It was a nice mellow activity for awhile. Lately, however, he gets all excited and tries to eat his books. But that's fun too.

I never really thought I was crazy about Goodnight Moon, but Andrew received a (very tasty) copy from my mother recently and I just love it. Is there a better line in American literature than, "Goodnight nobody. Goodnight mush."? I think not.

On the other hand, I have become very disillusioned about Mother Goose. She was awfully abusive to the children in her nursery rhymes. For example, did you remember that the Old Lady in the Shoe, eventually figured out "what to do" with all her kids: she whipped them all soundly and sent them to bed. Sheesh! I'll be glossing over those parts, Andrew.

5 months old!

Andrew is 5 months old today. He is settling in to his new day care this week, and so far seems to enjoy jumping in their jumper just as much as ours. I'm sure he feels right at home. He is almost 15 pounds (based on my rough home scale estimate), and has moved on to spitting out oat and rice cereal. Can't really say he's eating them yet..... He is getting very good at using his hands--reaching for toys, his bottle, his feet--and putting them in his mouth. His array of verbal noises continues to expand, as does the volume at which he can shriek! And happily he is starting to grow some hair. Compared to last month, he clearly has some more. It's much lighter than the hair he had at birth--looks like he might be a blond. This photo also marked the first time he lost interest in the camera and started playing with the Highland Cow placed next to him for scale.
